Title: Biogeography of Amphibians and Reptiles in Arizona: A Bioinformatics Computer Program Solution
John Cupak earned his B.A. in Biology with a Mathematics minor at Utica College of Syracuse University. He later earned his M.Sc. at State University of New York, Albany combining his biology and math skills to study the "Application of List Processing to Detection of Arterial Lesions of a Labelled Cell Index." Mr. Cupak currently is an instructor at Rivier University and teaches courses in Algorithms, Operating Systems, Multimedia and Web development, and Practical Java Programming for Math and Computer Science Department.
Guest Speaker: Timothy D'Angelo
Title: Searching for the Intra-Terrestrials: Life Beneath the Seafloor
After receiving his B.Sc. at Rivier University, Tim D'Angelo earned his M.Sc. from UNH studying endosymbiotic bacteria inhabiting plant roots. Upon taking a position at the Bigelow Laboratory for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay, Maine he quickly changed his focus from terrestrial to marine ecosystems. He currently works for Dr. Beth Orcutt investigating the structure and function of microbial communities inhabiting the extreme and expansive ecosystem of the subseafloor crustal aquifer. In his talk at Rivier he will discuss his research groups' recent expedition to field sites near the Mid Atlantic Ridge, where they went to investigate the microbes that make their home in the worlds' largest yet most unexplored habitable ecosystem.
