In October we again met to continue our development of science inquiry, both for our students and for ourselves as teachers. We concentrated on the investigation and data collection phase of the inquiry cycle during this session.

Magnets were used as the content. Some pictures are given below.

This session also included a discussion of indicators that could be used to document inquiry in the classroom. We intended to also discuss what we would look for in student artifacts to determine if inquiry had taken place, but we ran out of time. In the afternoon we talked about the abstract and proposal for the teacher's investigation of inquiry in the classroom. A document was drafted reflecting the thinking of this initial effort to come up with an instrument that could be used in the classroom to evaluate inquiry. It is expected that this would be very helpful as collaborating teachers visited each other's classrooms.
